Early 2016 threatened Flint, Michigan with a public health crisis—lead-contaminated water tainted the drinking supply affecting thousands across the entire community.

The tainted water supplies posed serious health risks to over 100,000 people, including young children. As a federal state of emergency was declared, time was of the essence to identify the source of contamination.

Fortunately, Flint, Michigan knew where to turn. By coordinating with state health authorities and officials at the CDC and quickly delivering high-quality sample testing bottles, we accelerated public health labs’ progress toward a solution.

Lightning-fast source detection led to improved tracking, proactive countermeasures and cleaner water. Rapid action and support helped curtail the water crisis, helping schoolyards in Flint remain a safe gathering place for healthier kids today.
